7 Ιαν 2021 · After defining what theories are and what they are for, we will now turn to what psychological theories are about. In the target article, I posit that theories are about phenomena —robust and recurring features in the world.
Postulate Theorem; Definition: A statement that is accepted without proof. A statement that has been proven using previously accepted statements. Proof: No proof is required for a postulate. A theorem requires a proof to establish its validity. Usage: Used as a starting point or assumption in a mathematical system.
25 Οκτ 2010 · Non-logical axioms sometimes called postulates, define properties for the domain of specific mathematical theory, or logical statements, which are used in deduction to build mathematical theories. “Things which are equal to the same thing, are equal to one another” is an example for a well-known axiom laid down by Euclid. Example: there is a Theorem that says: two angles that together form a straight line are “supplementary” (they add to 180°). A Corollary to this is the “Vertical Angle Theorem” that says: where two lines intersect, the angles opposite each other are equal (a=c and b=d in the diagram).
The purpose of this chapter is to provide a general orientation to psychology as a science which will serve as the basis for the constructs to be defined in a later chapter and to place the actual work of case analysis into a framework of general psychological theory.
The fundamental postulate is that we act in a way with how we expect the situation to be based on past events. How we interpret and interact with the world predicts how we behave in future scenarios and influences how we behave.
