Locate the appropriate setting. The setting will probably be located under the "Power Management" section. Look for a setting called "Power On By Keyboard" or something similar. Turn off the PC and try to test your settings.
Set control panel -> power options -> what to do when the lid is closed -> choose "do nothing". put your pc to sleep, close the lid, then when you move your mouse, it should wake up. Not sure if it will work, or if you have already tried it.
Check the bios on the laptop. You may be able to trigger it to power on from a keystroke, or via wake-on-lan. Or, you can take some office materials and make a basic lever so that you can bump the power switch with the lid closed.

You can potentially create four desktop shortcuts so that you have one available for each option: For the PC screen only: %windir%\System32\DisplaySwitch.exe /internal.
