23 Μαρ 2020 · We categorized the data into 6 subgroups by sex (male and female) and diagnosed age (<30, 30-59, and ≥60 years). We used the World 2000 standard population to standardize the liver cancer incidence in each subgroup at global, regional, and national levels.
There were more than 866,136 new cases of liver cancer in 2022. The 10 countries with the highest rates of liver cancer and the highest number of deaths from liver cancer in 2022 are shown in the tables below. ASR = age-standardised rates.
Primary liver cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide, with 80% of cases being diagnosed among patients who are 70 years or older, and it is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide according to the WHO.

We collected the annual incidence data of liver cancer from 1990 to 2017 by sex, region, country, age (17 age groups, from <5 to ≥80 years at 5-year intervals), and etiology from the online Global Health Data Exchange query tool.15 Data from a total of 195 countries and terri-tories were available.

15 Μαΐ 2020 · Results: Globally, the number of PLC cases for which the age at diagnosis was <30 years decreased from 17,381 in 1990 to 14,661 in 2017, whereas the number of PLC cases diagnosed at age 30 to 59 and ≥60 years old increased from 216,561 and 241,189 in 1990 to 359,770 and 578,344 in 2017, respectively.
28 Ιουν 2023 · Results. From 1990 to 2019, the ASDR of liver cancer decreased globally (EAPC = − 2.23, 95% confidence interval [CI]: − 2.61 to − 1.84). Meanwhile, declining trends were observed in both sexes, socio-demographic index (SDI) areas, and geographies, particularly East Asia (EAPC = − 4.98, 95% CI: − 5.73 to − 4.22).
