Marinduque (/ ˌ m æ r ə n ˈ d uː k eɪ /; Tagalog pronunciation: [maɾinˈduke]), officially the Province of Marinduque, is an island province in the Philippines located in Southwestern Tagalog Region or Mimaropa, formerly designated as Region IV-B.
MIMAROPA Region is an administrative region in the Philippines grouped under the Luzon island group. It covers 5 provinces, namely, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, and Romblon, as well as 1 highly urbanized city. The regional center is the City of Calapan.
It is one of two regions of the Philippines having no land border with another region, Eastern Visayas being the other, and is designated as Region IV-B. The name is an acronym combining the names of its provinces, which are: Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
Region IV-B on the other hand, is now known as MIMAROPA which stands for the island provinces comprising the region - MIndoro (Oriental and Occidental), MArinduque, ROmblon and PAlawan. EO103 also transferred the province of Aurora to Region III in Central Luzon.
Region 4B, also known as MIMAROPA, located at the heart of the archipelago is dubbed as the Treasure Trove of Southern Luzon. The name is an acronym that stands for its provinces, which are: Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
Region IV-B was designated as Mimaropa, which stands for the island provinces belonging to the Southern Tagalog region— Mindoro (Oriental and Occidental), Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan. Region IV-A was designated as Calabarzon. [ 5 ]
