Definitions. 1(1) In this Act, (a) “biological agent” includes sera, immune globulins, vaccines and toxoids; (b) “Board” means the Public Health Appeal Board established under section 3; (c) “carrier” means a person who, without apparent symptoms of a communicable disease, harbours and may disseminate an infectious agent;
15 Ιαν 2018 · A new Public Health Act is introduced, providing a legal framework for taking public health measures, including measures relating to health promotion, health protection, population health assessment, public health surveillance, disease and injury prevention, and public health emergency preparedness and response (Public Health Act, 2016).
The Act addresses the duties of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, deputy and medical officers of health; outlines the responsibilities of regional health authorities; deals with the treatment of communicable diseases; addresses epidemics; and deals with public health emergencies.
The Canada Health Act (CHA) sets out criteria and conditions that provincial and territorial health insurance plans have to meet in order to receive the full cash contribution for which they are eligible under the Canada Health Transfer.
