  3. Kura Tawhiti is the first reserve in New Zealand established specifically to protect a plant – the Castle Hill buttercup. With just 67 plants in existence, the Castle Hill buttercup can only be found within the 6-ha reserve.

  4. Castle Hill is one of the few areas in Canterbury where vestiges of that rock survive-sometimes in whimsically sculptured blocks such as the “head” above. The Czech tries perhaps half a dozen times, but fails.

  5. With just 67 plants in existence, the Castle Hill buttercup requires very specific conditions for its survival. It is only found within the 6 ha reserve (a naturally rare ecosystem of gently sloping limestone debris) which was recently re-fenced to protect the plant from being consumed by hares.

  6. Castle Hill is a location and a high country station in New Zealand's South Island. It is located at an altitude of 700 metres, close to State Highway 73 between Springfield and Arthur's Pass. It is private property and located within the Kura Tawhiti Conservation Area. [1]

  7. 8 Νοε 2018 · There are many Arthurs Pass walks, but most are alpine, or hours long. This is one of the best walks in Canterbury for kids to explore. Park in the free carpark and a 10 minute walk along the track will take you to the base of the largest rock.
