15 Ιαν 2001 · Today, the demand to own a Sharps rifle far exceeds the supply. Cowboy Action shooters who partake in the long-range side events love them. The movie Quigley Down Under, with Tom Selleck using a Sharps made the demand for Sharps rifles skyrocket, and several makers today offer a “Quigley” model.

11 Ιουλ 2017 · The original film rifles, made by Shiloh Sharps, were chambered in .45-110 and used a 540gr paper-patched bullet. The sample rifle I received from Uberti uses the far more common .45-70.
10 Ιουλ 2021 · The best answer is 65 to 70 grains of FFg Black powder. The 45-70 case is Way too big for most reasonable smokeless charges. You need something fast. IMR 3031, and Rx7 work fairly well, IMR AA 5744 is popular too. The powders in the range of Varget and 4895 are too slow.
16 Οκτ 2024 · The notorious, punishing .45-70 recoil is not my friend. The first match is long distance using a single-shot rifle. My favorite rifle is a Shiloh Sharps with a diet of Lyman 535 bullets on top of a compressed case of Goex black powder. Luckily, the rifle weighs about 12 lbs. and is supported so recoil is not painful.
6 Ιαν 2021 · This truly is a magnificent rifle, extremely well made and very accurate up to distances of 1000 yards (depending on the shooter).
Teamed with special tang-mounted adjustable sights, such as the Creedmoor, the .45-70 Sharps became a hard-hitting long-range weapon capable of accurately striking targets up to 1,000 yards downrange. That made the 1874 Sharps ideal for hunting buffalo and other large game.
