The Way of Mercy subclass really adds a lot of utility to the monk in the form of healing, and being able to poison enemies. I just wanted to share my build, because I'm sure people here can relate to the eureka feeling of finally achieving a character build you're satisfied with. 26 Φεβ 2022 · You have two choices as to how you will spend your 1st level: Monk or Rogue. If you go Monk, your Saving Throws are Strength and Dexterity but you can only have two starting skills. And the best choices are: Athletics, Acrobatics, and Stealth.
The best Monk build is a gunk. You go for shadow monk custom lineage for gunner and use the optional features Focused Aim and Ki-Fueled Attack to give yourself a bonus action attack and short periods where you are able to do more nova damage than a crossbow battle master.
If you're looking for the highest DPS possible on a Monk go for either Mercy or Kensei. If you want utility go for Shadow or Open Hand. If you want durability go for Long Death or Kensei. Avoid both Way of the Astral Self and Way of the Sun Soul if you are looking to optimize.

Monks are great support characters as they have the ability to move through combat with relative ease, going where the fighting is thickest or getting out of difficult situations.
