Having to restart the device and re-install the app is NOT an acceptable fix. A much simpler fix (still not really an acceptable one) is to tune a 1080 channel and select 1080 resolution rather than auto.

Last thing I'll say is that NO live cable TV service is going to have picture quality that compares with on-demand streaming services like Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Apple TV+, etc. The best cable TV services in terms of HD picture quality are DirecTV Stream and satellite, though.
