I find that if my kiddos can compare the hard & soft Gg sounds side-by-side, with a variety of different activities, their reading and spelling of those words is much more successful. A few little rules , lots of examples and fun ways to practice , will help reinforce the different Gg sounds.
When to Teach Hard and Soft G. After your students have gained mastery over consonants, digraphs, blends, and vowel combinations such as silent e’s or ‘floss rule’ sound groups – introducing G sounds makes for a fascinating lesson to see these concepts in action!
5 Φεβ 2022 · If the G in a word is followed by A, O, I, or U, it typically says the Hard G sound. Words that make the Hard G sound are gate, go, gift, and gum. They're pretty easy rules for kids to remember once they've had enough repetition, but repetition is definitely necessary to memorize the rule. :)
