Red-shouldered Hawk Calls: Red-shouldered Hawks (Buteo lineatus) are fairly easy to identify by sound. Listen for a LOUD “kee-ahh,” with the second note descending in pitch. The “kee-aah” call is often repeated. It is loud and can be heard from many miles away.
4 Μαρ 2020 · Also call during courtship flights. In California, adults and juveniles call at any time of year, but calling becomes more regular and frequent between Nov and May, peaking Jan–Apr. Red-shouldered Hawk is most vocal raptor in this area (P. Bloom pers. comm.).
Smaller than Red-tailed Hawk. Adults are beautiful with rich orange barring below and bold black-and-white checkerboard patterning on wings. Often in forested areas, where they hunt from perches.
