Starting from June 19, 2023 on the Madrid-Alicante line and June 26, 2023 on the Madrid-Valencia line, dogs weighing up to 40kg will now be allowed on high-speed AVE train services. This expansion follows the existing dog-friendly policy on the Madrid-Zaragoza-Barcelona and Madrid-Málaga routes.
You can travel with dogs weighing up to 40 kg on certain AVE (high-speed) trains between Madrid - Barcelona, Madrid - Malaga, Madrid - Alicante and Madrid - Valencia (check out the list of trains). You can travel with one large dog per person (maximum of two dogs per train in a single carriage).
Small pets can travel on AVE train services. This includes dogs, cats, ferrets and non-poultry birds under 10 kg, if they are transported in a cage that doesn’t exceed the measurements 60 x 35 x 35 cm.
