Revelation 17 vividly describes a beast with seven heads (v. 3). Subsequently, an interpreting angel explains to John the revelator that these heads represent seven consecutive kings: five have fallen, the sixth is, and the seventh king is yet to come (v. 10).
David Guzik commentary on Revelation 17 describes the fall of religious Babylon and the ten kings to come, who are allies of the Antichrist.
1. Revelation 16:19 and 14:8 have already declared Babylon’s fall. In Revelation 17 and 18, the fall of Babylon is carefully detailed. 2. Babylon is mentioned 287 times in the Scriptures, more than any other city except Jerusalem. a. Babylon was a literal city on the Euphrates River.
It seems that “Babylon” in Revelation is composed of two entities. The first entity (chapter 17) is the evil religious system and the second entity (chapter 18) is the economic system. The “great prostitute” is a one-world religion that will emerge in the end times.
