Primary side effects include granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, azoospermia, and increased serum creatinine. It is administered intravenously due to poor oral bioavailability. Ganciclovir is not recommended for use in pregnancy because of its teratogenic potential and toxicity.

31 Ιουλ 2023 · Ribavirin can harm an unborn baby if the mother or the father is using ribavirin. Do not use if you are pregnant, or if you are a man whose sex partner is pregnant. Both men and women should use effective birth control while taking ribavirin and for at least 6 months after the last dose.
Ribavirin exposure at any stage in pregnancy would not usually be regarded as medical grounds for termination of pregnancy. However, other risk factors may be present in individual cases which may independently increase the risk of adverse pregnancy outcome.
