  2. 1 Δεκ 2023 · Only RNA molecules are capable of combining the two crucial functions for prebiotic evolution: storing and replicating genetic information (1) and catalyzing critical life-sustaining chemical reactions, including RNA replication (2).

  3. We have seen in this chapter, for example, that a molecule of RNA is the catalyst for the peptidyl transferase reaction that takes place on the ribosome. The unique potential of RNA molecules to act both as information carrier and as catalyst forms the basis of the RNA world hypothesis.

  4. 5 Οκτ 2015 · In addition to its importance for the origin of life, the RNA World is also an ideal model system for studying fundamental issues about evolution. One such issue is the balance between natural selection, which is largely deterministic, and chance events.

  5. 1 Σεπ 1999 · Ultimately, experimental evolution provides a direct means to test specific hypotheses about the origins of metabolism by probing the strength of persistent RNA–metabolite interactions and the pathways for acquisition of new catalytic function.

  6. By synthesizing origin of life (OoL) research from its inception to recent findings, with a focus on (i) proof-of-principle prebiotically plausible syntheses and (ii) molecular relics of the ancient RNA World, we present a comprehensive up-to-date description of science's understanding of the OoL and the RNA World hypothesis.

  7. 6 Ιουλ 2022 · The RNA world hypothesis — which postulates that RNA with both genetic information and catalytic activity had an essential role in the origin of life — is now supported by many scientists.
