Main Point: God’s Spirit empowers us (8:12-13) • Through the Spirit, we have the power to overcome our sinful desires and put to death our sinful deeds, which lead to death
The apostle Paul uses a word that means "to owe a debt" in Romans 8:12 that sets the stage for our message today. In verse 12 of chapter 8 Paul says, "So then, brethren, we are under obligation."
In Romans 8, the Apostle Paul relays to his readers the means by which the power of sin is broken; a solution that lies only in the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Corrected translation thus far of Romans 8:27: “That is, the one who, as an eternal spiritual truth, searches…” Romans 8:27, “And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
The Holy Spirit is the spring of all desires toward God, which are often more than words can utter. The Spirit who searches the hearts, can perceive the mind and will of the spirit, the renewed mind, and advocates his cause. The Spirit makes intercession to God, and the enemy prevails not.
