In Romans 8:27, Paul uses the word in relation to the activity of the Father who “carefully searches” the heart of the Christian where the Spirit’s intercession takes place with inexpressible groanings.
Romans 8:27. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. When we ourselves hardly know the mind of the Spirit, he that searches all hearts knows it.

Translation. Romans 8:12-17. 12 Ἄρα οὖν, ἀδελφοἰ, ὀπἑιλεται ἑσμεν οὐ τῇ σαρκἰ τοῦ κατἀ σαρκα ζῆν. So therefore, brothers, we are not under obligation to the flesh, to live according to the flesh, 13 εἰ γάρ κατά σάρκα ζῆτε, μέλλετε ἁποθνῄσκειν; εί δέ πνεύματι τάς πράξεις τοῦ σώματος θανατοῦτε, ζήσεσθε.
