On the eighth night, when he startled the old man from his sleep and feared the neighbors would hear the man’s shriek and heavily pounding heartbeat, the narrator killed, dismembered, and hid the man’s body under the floorboards.
The narrator openly spies on the old man when he sleeps in his room. He breaches all the norms of one’s bedroom and does not consider the privacy of the old man. Ironically, the bedroom becomes a place of agony for the old man.
