5 Νοε 2009 · I recently got interested in odd time signatures, I wonder why? Does anyone have list of Rush songs and the time signatures they are in? For example (I'm just making this up) Freewill: 7/8, 4/4, 7/8. etc.
IIRC Circumstances has the most time signature changes of any Rush song. Looks like the transcriptions I found online can't even seem to agree on them. One of them shows the intro going from 4/4 to 3/4 to 2/4 to 7/8 to 4/4 to 5/4 to 3/4 to 5/4 in ten measures.
The song is mostly in 6/8 which, being the same as 3/4 and 12/8, is the second most common time signature and far from being an odd one. But the verses accent like 123 123 1234 12 which gives it a more suspenseful and complicated feel.

9 Οκτ 2008 · 'Odd' Time Signatures might be better referred to as 'Compound Meters.' Citing 7/4 as my favourite example, one might see it as either [3/4 + 4/4] or [3/4 + 4/4] -depending on how you'd like to count the beats. Further: 9/4 could be counted in several ways using [2/4, 3/4, & 4/4].
