The VSS Vintorez is chambered in 9 mm caliber and is still very popular among Spetsnaz (Russian Special Forces) operators. VSS stands for “Vintovka (rifle), Snaiperskaya (sniper) Spetzialnaya (special-purpose). And “Vintorez” means “thread-cutting plate.”
VSS is designed for firing 9x39 mm cartridges, silently and without a flash, at a range of up to 400 m. The engagement of enemy personnel wearing Class 2 body armour is guaranteed when using SP6 special cartridges at the above range. The rifle comes with a 4x scope and an integrated silencer. The Vintorez design was updated five years ago.
