The projects became surfboards and the art of surfboard shaping. By 1985 Rusty started his own company. On his way home after surfing in Del Mar, Rusty “saw a space for lease on 15 th street and Stratford. By 1986 Rusty Del Mar opened as the first retail store,” reports Zach Groban, owner since 2005. It stands now as the only Rusty store.
