Brain waves are the electrical patterns generated by the brain cells, known as neurons. These patterns, measured using an electroencephalogram (EEG), reflect the brain’s activity and can provide insight into various mental states and functions.
Two physical characteristics of a wave are amplitude and wavelength (Figure SAP.7). The amplitude of a wave is the distance from the center line to the top point of the crest or the bottom point of the trough. Wavelength refers to the length of a wave from one peak to the next.
