Saint Nektarios of Aegina, is the most widely known of Greek Orthodox Saints of the last two centuries. He was born in October 1st, 1846 in Selybria in Eastern Thrace (now in Turkey). He was one of seven children of Dimosthenis and Mpalou Kefalas and at Holy Baptism was given the name Anastasios.
Agios Nektarios of Aegina (1846-1920), is one of the most widely known Greek Orthodox Saints. He was officially recognized as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 1961.
Since 1908, Saint Nektarios lived in a small house near the monastery. He wrote several works, mainly edifying and for the divine liturgy. His humility and charity were proverbial.
