To meet the examination requirement for licensure, you must pass the New York State Massage Therapy Examination (see New York State Massage Therapy Examination Blueprint). Before being admitted to the examination, you must have met all requirements for licensure except citizenship.

New York massage therapists take a state-specific licensing examination. The examination covers assessment and evaluation, treatment planning, and treatment skills, as well as professional responsibilities, professional ethics, and business practice.
Verifying a New York License. New York massage therapists must display a current New York registration certificate; this certificate lists the professional's name, address, and dates of the registration period. Massage therapists must reregister every three years to practice in New York.
(Updated for 2024) Massage therapists in NY must be licensed and registered by the New York State Board of Massage before practicing. Requirements include completing a 1,000 hour massage education program and passing the New York State Massage Therapy Examination.

To qualify for a Massage Therapy license in the State of New York, an applicant must meet the following requirements: Complete and file an application with the New York State Education Department. Possess a high school diploma or the legal equivalent of a high school diploma (GED).
