31 Αυγ 2020 · Beginning September 1, 2020 day hikes up many popular trails in the San Bernardino National Forest will require a wilderness permit, and new trailhead quotas have been created to reduce overcrowding on the trails and help preserve the wilderness experience.
Just five miles away from the highest peak in SoCal - San Gorgonio - San Bernardino tops out at a respectable 10,649 feet. Hiking from Angelus Oaks, this 15-mile out-and-back trail climbs over 4,700 vertical feet. It makes for a very long day hike or a great weekend backpacking trip.

A permit is required for both day and overnight hikes on the San Bernardino Peak trail. Permit applications are accepted up to 90 days in advance. Although quotas are strict for overnight campsites, walk-up permits for day hikes are almost always available for San Bernardino.
