Sanyo are an old-school Japanese brand. Their CRT’s aren’t the top notch, but they are a competent performer like most Japanese companies. I wouldn’t have too many worries with it as a starter set, but would keep an eye out for a better brand/set if you’re after the best of the best.
I was at a local game store yesterday and they had a tv very similar to this, but maybe a 35. It looked GREAT. Not a TV I would have considered before, but being there in person seeing it, it just looked amazing.

I bought this 32" Sanyo to replace my old sanyo 25" stereo tv. The old sanyo tv had been very reliable and had a very good picture. I checked consumers reports, and they rated this sanyo as the most reliable, but with the worst picture of the group.
