According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 28.7 square miles (74 km 2), of which 28.31 square miles (73.3 km 2) (or 98.64%) is land and 0.39 square miles (1.0 km 2) (or 1.36%) is water. [3]U.S. Route 30 and U.S. Route 34 run east to west through the township. Yorkville covers much of the township.. The township is named after the Bristol family.

Bushy Run Battlefield reopened to visitors on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024. The 216-acre park and museum had been closed since June 26 to cleanup damage from a tornado.
