I went and bought an expensive SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 8GB class 6 chip. However, when I dump data from the card to the machine via a USB 2.0 cable, it's only getting 5.0 MB/second maximum according to Windows 7's disk explorer.

1 Φεβ 2011 · What kind of performance improvement should I expect on a Canon 500D with a class 6? Will a class 4 slow the writes/reads noticeably? I mostly take (low shutter speed) photos and occasional short videos. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SDHC#.C3.97_rating. Class 4 is 32MBit/s (4MByte/s) and Class 6 is 48MBit/s (6MByte/s).

16 Δεκ 2006 · Has anyone tried a Class 6 SDHC card? I would like to know if it can keep up with burst mode set to infinite shooting and shooting JPEG at about 10MB resolution. If so, which brand SDHC card are you using?

Cards can be rated as Class 2 (minimum write speed of 2MB/s), Class 4 (4MB/s), Class 6 (6MB/s) or Class 10 (10MB/s). It’s important to note that these are the minimum, so it’s entirely possible a card can achieve faster speeds but these give you an impression of the least you can expect.
