Welcome to Searchlight, Nevada, and the SEARCHLIGHT HISTORIC MUSEUM. The museum is now open! Mon-Thurs 9am-2pm. This museum was established to report the history of one of Southern Nevada’s most fascinating boomtowns.
Searchlight, Nevada, is an old mining camp located about an hour south of Las Vegas. It was founded when gold was discovered in 1897. As word spread, the camp and surrounding area was flooded with miners. Two years later a 16-mile narrow gauge railroad from the mines was established.
Searchlight began to boom in 1902 and reached its peak in 1907. As a typical mining town, it had a reported population of 1,500 people. In fact, at the time it was larger than Las Vegas, NV.
