13 Μαΐ 2001 · Verse 13, “I write these things to you, who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.” God intends His children to have a sure and certain assurance of their salvation. And that is Paul’s purpose here in Romans 5:1-11. That’s what he’s getting at.
Security. When we trust in Jesus Christ, our eternal security in Christ becomes a spiritual reality whether we understand it or believe it. Ones belief in security in Christ does not make it true or false. If we have trusted in the person and work of Christ for personal salvation, security is a fact.
The way in which we persevere in faith and thereby maintain assurance of salvation is by taking seriously the glorious promises and the terrible threats found in Scripture (cf. Hebrews 10:19-31; also Deuteronomy 28).
