Submissions – Shenandoah. Open and Upcoming Submission Periods. FICTION submissions (short stories and novel excerpts) will open on September 10 and on January 15 each year. We will be open for a special call for ECO-NONFICTION on September 10.

Shenandoah is now open for submissions under new editor Beth Staples, and will remain open until October 31, 2018 for the fall 2018 issue. We will be open again from January 1, 2019 through March 15, 2019 for the spring 2019 issue.
On March 15 Shenandoah will begin considering flash fictions of under 1000 words for the Bevel Summers Contest. Submit via Submittable (through this website) and via U.S. Post Office. Contest runs to March 31 at midnight.
Shenandoah Literary Magazine October 1, 2021 Submissions are open for the Graybeal-Gowen Prize for Virginia Poets 🍂 No entry fee, and the prize is $1,000 with publication in our Spring 2022 Issue 71.2.
We are now open for fiction submissions! Send your short stories (up to 8k words) and flash fiction pieces (up to 3 stories, 1k words each) our way. Our BIPOC Editorial Fellow, the incomparable Jenzo DuQue, will be selecting works for the upcoming issue.
