When you pick it up, a spear trap will trigger, trapping you in the chamber. If you equip the amulet, it will trigger a visible resonance effect with the wall where it was found. Casting any targeted spell or shout at the wall with the amulet equipped will shatter the wall and disarm the trap, allowing you to proceed with the quest.
All you have to do is take the Amulet, talk to Tolfdir on the other side of the trap, equip the Amulet and use a spell to smash the wall. This is kind of sudden but pretty simple, either follow...
As soon as you pick up the Amulet, a spear trap activates behind you, locking you into the small space. If Tolfdir is nearby he will suggest that you try using the amulet. In your inventory, it is listed as the Saarthal Amulet (under Apparel), and has an enchantment that reduces spell costs by 3%.
Follow the corridor to grab three enchanted rings (on the ground) and an amulet. The fourth artifact is the Saarthal Amulet. Once retrieved, you'll be trapped inside the room.
You will obtain the Saarthal Amulet and become trapped inside the room. Tolfdir will rush up to ask what happened, so explain to him your current situation. Tell Tolfdir about the amulet, and he will suggest using it to see if it can help you escape.
