Slic3r is mainly a toolpath generator for 3D printers: it reads 3D models (STL, OBJ, AMF, 3MF) and it converts them into G-code instructions for 3D printers. But it does much more than that, see the features list below.
Slic3r can be downloaded directly from: https://slic3r.org/download or https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/releases. Pre-compiled packages are available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Windows users can choose between 32 and 64 bit versions to match their system.
Slic3r takes 3D models (STL, OBJ, AMF) and converts them into G-code instructions for 3D printers. It's compatible with any modern printer based on the RepRap toolchain, including all those based on the Marlin, Sprinter and Repetier firmware.
Configuration Wizard. Slic3r has two features to aid newcomers: the configuration wizard, and simple mode. Sometimes it is nice to have a helping hand when starting out with new software. The configuration wizard asks a series of questions and creates a configuration for Slic3r to start with.
This guide will walk you through the steps of setting up Slic3r for slicing and printing on your SeeMeCNC printer.
For this tutorial I will assume a 0.7mm nozzle in all settings and 3.0mm filament - you have adjust to different settings accordingly. But the basics behind are the same and you will know after reading this Instructable how to get proper prints using Slic3r.
