Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) was derived in part from the somatoform disorders (somatisation disorder, hypochondriasis) which were eliminated from Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition. Anxiety disorders and/or depressive disorders are common in SSD.
