HISTORY. The First Ten Years. 1943 - 1952. The Los Angeles Southern Baptist Association (LASBA) was organized on September 5, 1943 at Prairie Avenue Baptist Church in Hawthorne California. Rev. W.W. Brister was responsible for calling the meeting and acted as the moderator during the organization.

The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), alternatively the Great Commission Baptists (GCB), is a Christian denomination based in the United States. It is the world's largest Baptist organization, the largest Protestant, and the second-largest Christian body in the United States.
On September 13, 1940, the Southern Baptist General Convention of California was organized at the Independent Orthodox Missionary Baptist Church of Shafter (which later became First Southern Baptist Church) with 13 churches participating.

Since the Southern Baptist Convention’s founding in 1845, the Home Mission Board (HMB) has trained and employed missionaries for various areas of service across North America. First located in Marion, Alabama, the HMB relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1882.
