17 Ιαν 2024 · In Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, 18 spells can blind a target. Artificers, bards, clerics, druids, paladins, sorcerers, warlocks, wizards, arcane tricksters, and eldritch knights can tap into this magic, leaving only rangers without the ability to magically blind a target.
If the spell says "that you can see" then the caster can't cast that spell. If the spell requires a melee spell attack or a ranged spell attack, then the player rolls at disadvantage. Otherwise, the spell goes off without modification.
22 Ιαν 2023 · As a player, the easiest way to get access to the blinded condition is through spells. Many spells offer blindness as part of their effects, if not the focus of its effect to begin with. Here are some examples of the spells that let you get the blinded condition onto your foes:
Blinded (...) You can blind or deafen a foe. Choose one creature that you can see within range to make a Constitution saving throw. If it fails, the target is either blinded or deafened (your choice) for the duration. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make a Constitution saving throw. On a success, the spell ends.
Battlesmith’s Steel Defender can take the Help action to grant advantage, and can take the Deflect reaction to impose disadvantage on attacks against other creatures. Armorer Thunder Gauntlets can also impose disadvantage on attacking others.
All the blinded condition does is prevent you from seeing, grant attacks against you advantage, and your attacks disadvantage. It does not directly do anything to your spell casting ability, but spells that require attack rolls or for you to see your target will be affected.
