24 Ιαν 2020 · Spondylolysis is a unilateral or bilateral defect of the pars interarticularis, an isthmus of bone connecting the superior and inferior facet surfaces in the spine at a given level (Figure 1 ). The pars defect may either be an acute fracture or a chronic osseous disruption with sclerotic borders.
Spondylolysis can often times be treated conservatively. The primary aims of the treatment are to optimize the body’s ability to heal the fractured bone, improve strength and mobility, and reduce pain. Common treatments include: Physical Therapy; Reduction or cessation of aggravating activities

Two patients (21 and 28 years old at surgery) had evidence of fusion across fracture sites, while 1 patient exhibited radiolucency around the screws and no progression of spondylolisthesis. Additionally, we reviewed 8210 articles and included 15 in a systematic review of direct pars repair.
