The guests got scale (basically the unionized actors’ version of minimum wage) and in the 1970s, that was around $250 for a half-hour show so $1250 for the five-episode taping session. Scale is different for nighttime shows.
It definitely depends on the celebrity, the show, and the situation. I can't imagine they're getting paid a lot of money to appear, but they're definitely at least getting paid the SAG minimum (around $1000/hr).

Varied a lot by which actor, which show, and which season. At the high end, the main actors of TNG were pulling down about $1 million per episode each. At the low end, on the later shows the lower-tier regulars were pulling down $25-30k per episode.
