The Department issues identification cards that are valid for up to six years to Texas residents. To apply for an ID card, you will need to provide proof of the following: U.S. Citizenship or, if you are not a U.S. Citizen, evidence of lawful presence, Texas Residency, Identity, and; Social Security Number*.
Primary identity documents include: Texas driver license or Texas identification card not expired more than 2 years. Proof of citizenship will be required if not previously established. Valid, unexpired U.S. passport book or U.S. passport card.
To obtain your Texas DL or ID, you are required to apply in person at a Texas driver license office.
