Content Test Timing: Candidates in traditional or apprenticeship programs must pass the content test before receiving a Professional Educator License, not before student teaching. This allows student teaching to begin this fall even if the test is not yet passed.

The Illinois State Board of Education requires first-time teacher licensure candidates pass a teacher performance assessment, currently the edTPA. This assessment is completed during the student teaching semester. Testing mandates can be revised or changed by legislative rule change.
Consult your college advisor, licensure officer, regional office of education, or the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) website for the most recent information regarding licensure requirements. It is the individual's responsibility to take the appropriate test (s).
If you apply for and receive an educator license with stipulations on or after July 1, 2013, you must submit a separate application for the professional educator license once you have met (or are close to meeting) the full requirements for the license.
