Plover (rhymes with "lover") is a free, open source stenography engine. Use it instead of typing to write into any program at speeds of over 200 words per minute.
Plover is the world’s first free, open-source stenography program, which translates chorded key strokes from your normal computer keyboard into meaningful words. Its “Arpeggiate” setting allows using non- NKRO keyboards (most normal keyboards).
There are not any (free) ones for stenography that I am aware of, but there is a free brief dictionary out there. That doesn't help you write general words, but if you're looking to shorten your writing it's very helpful.
