The Ford small-block V8-based 1969–70 302 H.O. "Boss 302" engine was developed in 1968 for the SCCA's 1969 Trans-Am road racing series. Available only in the Boss 302 Mustang, it derived from a line that traced to the Ford 289 HiPo engine, not a stock "Windsor" 302.
Horsepower: Early versions ranged from 140 to 200 horsepower. HO models could reach up to 225 horsepower in factory form. Torque: Ranged from around 240 to 300 lb-ft, depending on the model and year. Fuel System. Carburetor: Two-barrel carburetor (some models equipped with four-barrel carburetors)
31 Ιαν 2024 · This engine was rated at 140 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque with an 8.4:1 compression ratio. The engine block and cylinder heads were cast iron. Ford used cast iron for the engine blocks and cylinder heads throughout the production of the 302 in Fox Body and SN95 Mustangs.
The 302 /5.0 L was to be phased out and the 255/4.2 L was to be an interim engine which would remain until the new V6 was in production – the 255/4.2 L was a quick fix. Rated power (SAE net) was 115-122 hp (86-91 kW), depending on year and application.
14 Μαρ 2024 · A mild Ford 302 engine build in the 250-horsepower range should survive 5-7 psi of boost with proper tuning and net about 100 hp gains, but as previously cautioned, exceeding 7 psi on a stock 302 rotating assembly can lead to damaged pistons.
