I would consider either Iron or Steel armour to be the best armour to fight instead of the commonly accepted Mithril. At higher levels Mithril might become better as increasing your hit chance, max damage, and DPS will scale better for higher level armour.

Motherlode mine and giants foundry are an extremely potent combo for smithing xp on ironmen. I think fletching has a good model, make all items of associated metal 15 levels after you can use it in the other skill. Rune would require lvl 55 smithing for pl8s. After that make smithing a maitiance skill
