Bulb planting time is here and it is a great time to plant a Surprise Lily bulb also known as a Naked Lady, Mystery Lily, or Lycoris squamigera. These bulbs produce gorgeous stems loaded with bright pink amazingness mid- to late-summer in the Midwestern garden.
The real fun starts in late summer, when leafless flower stalks rise majestically from the dead foliage and open into a bouquet of stunning blooms, as if by magic. Other common names include mystery lily, disappearing lily, and naked ladies (in reference to the leafless flower stems).

Start with low-growing spring bulbs like snowdrops, crocus, grape hyacinths, squills, anemones, and daffodils. They will color your borders when your Lilies are not at their best. Many shrubs are exciting in spring, especially before most of the Lilies come into flower.
5 Σεπ 2024 · Surprise lily bulbs are large and reach about two inches in diameter. Choose the plumpest bulbs to get the best show of blooms. If you're dividing bulbs, you can replant the smaller bulblets that form, but they might not flower for a year or two.
