A course on applying land surveying and civil engineering design principles to land development projects. Topics include: subdivision regulations, zoning regulations, lot layout, street layout, utility design, drainage, and site grading.
guidelines for gathering, processing and documenting the data. Suggested note formats for both conventional and automated surveys with references to mapping standards are provided. This chapter presents many of the established surveying and mapping methods along with some of the modern techniques now in use.
A course on foundation concepts of land surveying and site planning. Topics include: angle, distance, and elevation measurement; contours; and mapping and site planning fundamentals. Students complete outdoor field exercises and manual drafting lab exercises. Prerequisites: MAT 124 or MAT 096 or appropriate placement.
Document the procedure and combined factor used for converting between datums. Determine survey collection methods. Collect primary, secondary, and tertiary survey data. Process and import secondary, tertiary, or other survey data into design software for use by designers.
1. OLDER TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEYING METHODS. This section provides an overview of the past and present instruments and methods used to perform topographic surveys of sites, facilities, or infrastructure.
Surveying and mapping performed for design and construction should be recorded and plotted in the units prescribed for the project by the requesting owner or project sponsor.
Graduates of the Surveying and Mapping program earn an Associate of Applied Science degree. Coursework includes operating state-of-the-art surveying equipment and computer software, in conjunction with understanding the fundamentals of civil engineering and site design.
