Complaint: In the days following the creation of my business profile on Yelp, I received multiple phone calls regarding the platform and advertising. Key parts of one of these calls included the sales agent:
20 Σεπ 2023 · Suspicious Review Activity Alerts warn that we’ve detected a large number of positive reviews coming from a single IP address, or reviews from users who may be connected to a group that coordinates incentivized reviews.
Yelp’s Consumer Alerts program warns people when we find evidence of extreme attempts to manipulate a business’s ratings and reviews.
Yelp’s policies strictly prohibit compensated and incentivized reviews as they can mislead consumers. To help inform people’s spending decisions, we issue Consumer Alerts that appear over a business’s reviews to warn people when we discover suspicious review activity.
10 Μαρ 2020 · 35+ businesses received an alert after we obtained evidence that someone associated with the business may have tried to abuse the legal system in an effort to stifle free speech. Reviewers have a First Amendment right to express their honest opinions on Yelp and we regularly promote and defend their ability to do so.
25 Απρ 2022 · Yelp’s Compensated Activity Alert is placed on a business page when we receive evidence that someone has offered cash, discounts, gift certificates or other incentives in exchange for someone to write, change, prevent or remove a review. 21 Σεπ 2023 · The FTC noted that Yelp reported 950 suspicious posts, users, or groups facilitating fake reviews in 2021 alone. Of course, the fake review problem goes beyond Yelp.
