In AID patients, FT3 and FT4 negatively correlated with HADS-Anxiety score, and they were downregulated in patients with anxiety compared to patients without anxiety. Meanwhile, FT3 and FT4 were negatively associated while TSH level positively associated with HADS-Depression score.
Many studies have revealed that there are significantly deranged levels of T3, T4, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in patients of depression.[4,5] Mood and anxiety disorders have higher prevalence in patients with thyroid dysfunction.
All results fell within normal ranges except for thyroid function tests, which exhibited low TSH levels high free T3 levels, and high free T4 levels, thereby confirming the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism.
Studies examining total and free plasmatic T4 levels in patients with depression have shown inconsistent results. Serum T4 levels in the upper range of normal or slightly higher have been reported in depressed patients as compared to healthy or psychiatric controls.
