These are just a few of the Bible’s many assurances of God’s love. Why would we leave such precious love letters unopened? May our hearts hunger for a word from the Lord, as the psalmist writes, “I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure” (Psalm 119:162).
Thinking about the Word of God in terms of “love letters” personalizes Scripture in a way that draws us closer to what those earliest storytellers of the faith sought to express: God is the One who will be there for us, is concerned about us, and loves us.

Love in the Bible, as in our everyday usage, can be directed from person to person or from a person to things. When directed toward things, love means enjoying or taking pleasure in those things. Love towards persons is more complex.
