The specific factor that influences this rating is how well a local fire department can suppress a fire that starts.
Class 1 generally represents superior property fire protection, and Class 10 indicates that the area's fire suppression program does not meet Verisk's minimum criteria. Virtually all U.S. insurers of homes and business property use Verisk's Public Protection Classifications in calculating premiums.
For each fire protection area, ISO assigns a Public Protection Classification code — a number from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents exemplary fire protection, and Class 10 indicates that the area's fire-suppression program doesn't meet ISO's minimum criteria.
Sec. 6003.001. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter: (1) "Fire protection sprinkler system" means an assembly of underground or overhead piping or conduits that conveys water with or without other agents to dispersal openings or devices to: (A) extinguish, control, or contain fire; and.
