As the most significant metropolitan part of Texas, entrepreneurs vision it as an upcoming powerhouse.
The entire region varies from about 750 to 2,500 feet (200 to 750 metres) above sea level, and farming and livestock raising constitute the basic economy. In Hill Country there are small industries and recreational areas.

FORT WORTH. With over 800,000 residents, Fort Worth is the North Central Plains' most populous city. Located in the far east of the Plains and west of Dallas, it was once a army base that overlooked the Trinity River.
The North Central Plains are the southeastern reaches of the Panhandle region of the state. To the north, the Red River marks the boundary with the High Plains region and Oklahoma, while the Caprock Escarpment separates it from the Llano Estacado to the west.
The North Central Plains is an area of rolling plains often covered by small oak trees, mesquite, brush, and scattered grasses. The subregions of the North Central Plains are a series of land belts extending north and south through the north-central part of the state.
